ROAD BOARD.
0 November 2, 1872.
The Board met at 10.30 Present, all the members except Major Wcstrup The minutes of last meeting were read. A letter was received, and read, from Mr. R. M. Skeet, informing the Board that, in consequence of the Board Engineer not having put him in possession of Contract D.l, after acceptance of Tender, and his signature to the bond and specification, he should hold the Board responsible for any loss sustained thereby. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr. Skeet and inform him that as he was officially notified that the Engineer would not be able to put him in possession until Monday the fourth of November, and before signing the bond and specification, the Board considers his letter unreasonable and uncalled for.
Mr. H. Harris, and Eperaima, had an interview with the Board on the subject of the Opou road. After some little consideration it was decided to let the matter stand over for discussion among the Natives and Mr. Harris, until the next sitting of the Board. The Engineer informed the Board that he had been molested, in the exercise of his duty, in making a survey of the Opou road, by Eperaima and charged that Native with destroying pegs and boundary marks. The Board authorized Mr. Drummond to cause an information to be laid against Eperaima. Mr. Johnson moved “ That the Secretary be instructed to take steps under Part VII of the Highway Boards Empowering Act, to proclaim the road from Wairenga-a-hika to Ripon gaere crossing.” Carried. Mr. Smith’s advance of £5 on account of contract D was agreed to be paid on the recommendation of the Engineer. Mr. Poynter and Mr. King arranged to meet at the Board Room on Thursday next to consider the Assessment Roll. The Board adjourned to Saturday the 9th at 11 o’clock.
