Bay Mqi/nted Volunteers: —• The following notice ‘tippears in the General Government Gazette : —Adolphus Frederick Hardy to be -Captain; Arthur Kcmpthorne to be Lieutenant; Matthew Hall to be Sub-Lieu-tenant ; commissions to date from the 3rd March 1872. The Wmigauui Chronicle is of opinion that the Civil Service “ shelters a number of insolent and ignorant ‘ swells ’ who in any other capacity would fail to earn a bare living.” — Captain Turner Returned to Tauranga from Mauugaroa on Saturday last. We are informed that the purvey being rapidly proceeded.with. Mr. Simpson has relieved, Mr. Haigh at Maungaroa, and the latter gentleman'will shortly proceed to Rotorua, ta take charge of the survey between that place and Tapapa.— B. P. Times.
