THE WAITOTARA ELECTION PETITITION.
Wellington, Nov. 12. In compliance with the order of bis Honor the Chief Justice,*! Mr Bell filed to-day in the Supreme Court particulars of the nature of the corrupt and illegal practices which are charged in general terms in the petition of the Hon John Bx-yce and D. Peat and J. H Somnxerville, against the return of Mr George Hutchison for the Waitotaraseat; —1. With respect to the charge in the Sth paragraph of the petition, the “treating 5 * therein charged is the supplying of meat, drink, entertainment, and provision gratis to voters and others in the elec toral district of Waitotara, at public houses in the same district; and the supplying of meat, drink, entertainment and provision gratis to voters and others, before, during, and after meetings held by the respondent, or meetings held by the respondent’s committee, within the electoral district. 2. With respect to the charge in the 11th paragraph of jthe petition the charge is made under section 15 of the Corrupt Practices Prevention Act, 18S1; and the illegal practices in the 11th paragraph referred to are the illegal practices specifically charged in other paragraphs of the petition 3. With respect to the 12th paragraph of the petition, the charge is (a) that the respondent expended in securing his election large sums of money in excess of the moneys authorised by the schedules of the Corrupt Practices Prevention Act, 1881 ; (i>) That the said moneys, or'part or parts thereof, were expended for the purpose of vax-ious corrupt and illegal practices alleged in the petition.
