LOSS OE A STEAMER AND THIRTEEN LIVES.
A telegram from Rouen, dated September 22nd, states that the steamer Romeo, of Liverpool, bound for Rouen with a cargo of 2,800 tons of maize, sank near Lavaqiierie. The vessel ran ashore, but lay in a good position and the pilot thought that there would be no difficulty in floating her; but she subsoepueutij’- drifted on to a bar 10 feet in height and capsized, seven passenger and six Scandinavian sailors being drowned. Among the former was a solicitor from Liverpool, named Oldman, who embarked at Havre with Mr George Bowring, a shipowner of Liverpool, for a trip as far as Rouen, Mr Oldman had his thigh broken and was drowned, in spite of the efforts of two of the crew to save him. His friend, Mr Bow ring, was carried along by the current, and, after being an hour in the water, succeeded in reaching the bank by swimming. He received inj urios to his wrist and one of his feet, The captain, phot, and remainder of the crew were saved by a tug.
