PATEA ATHLETIC SPORTS.

A mooting 1 for the purpose of arranging for the Annual Sports ineottiug was hold ou Thursday evening last, when R A Adams Esq (president to tho Sports Association) occupied the chair. Tho meeting was not so well attended as was hoped, ‘owing, probably, to tho fact that it was sot for the same evening .as Mrs Joliie’s ‘ Cottage Concert in aid of thejParson age fund. However, those present had their hearts in the work, and some good business was transacted Last years balance sheet was read shewing a credittjbalanco of £3 : 10:6 and was adopted It was decided to hold the sports on January 2nd, and tho following office-bearers were elected :—President, R A Adams, Esq, Vice-President, J Sheilds, Esq ; Messrs Adams, and Kearney, Finance Committee; Messrs Armitago, Atkins, Baxter, Baldwin, Carey, Monks, and Sargeant, Ground Committee ; Judges Messrs R A Adams and J sheilds (running); W Cowern and A .Sargeant, (jumping) ; ■" tarter, Mr H I - ikaadicuppers, ACessrs IvoaivsejMcCarty, and fargeant. A pro gramme of 15 events was drawn up and agreed to. and it was decided in addition to the money event prizes in the Exhibition handicap, to give a five guinea cup to the scorer of most points in throe events. A resolution was passed authorising tho committee to advertise the programme in tho Wanganui Herald as well as the County Press. It is probable arrangements will be made to present the cup to the winner at the Exhibi‘ion entertainment ou the evening of the sports.
