Tlio annual meeting of the Patea Cricket Club was hold on Saturday evening, pursuant to advertised notice. There was only a moderate attendance Mr I). Paterson was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last meeting wore read and confirmed. The annual report of the Committee was then road as follows : Mr Chairman and Members.—Your Committee have to report that the club, during the past year, was only fairly successful in the number of “winning” matches; having played four outside matches, winning two and losing two. Several matches, however, were played between the members, which proved very useful in getting the members together for practice, and your Committee would recommend that such matches be played as often as possible. A challenge Avas received from Manaia, but your Committee found it impossible to arrange a date suitable to both teams, but it is hoped that hotter success will attend their efforts this season. Quo match avus played with HaAvera, and your club still owes them a match on the Iluwcra ground Three matches were p'ayed with Waverley teams, and they Avish to arrange for another series, for this season, as early as possible. The financial position of tho club is satisfactory, as all property is paid for and there are no liabilities. This is a matter for congratulation as last season everything had to bo purchased and paid for. The special thanks of the club are due to W. Arundell Esq. who presented to tho club a first class sot of leg guards. Your Committee would recommend their successors to endeavour to secure as many half day matches as possible, as experience proves that teams for that purpose can be obtained much more readily then for whole day matches. Your Committee, in conclusio:i. have to perform ihe painful duty ofiecording sho death of tho club’s Captain, tho late Mr G. \Y. Gower, who Avas drowned in tho Patea river some weeks ago, and by which this club sutlers a great loss, and your Committee feel certain that the members of the club will job. *ho.n in their expression of regret tow md sympathy with, the bereaved parents. laplacing this report before you tho duties of your Committee cease, and it is the business of this meeting to elect their successors.
