VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
—* Several members of the Patea Rifle corps, having' given due notice of resigning their membership, Major Stnpp has authorised Captain Taplin to at once accept their resignation and call in their gear, due notice of which is given in our advertising columns. This will not, of course, prevent any of the same men joining again at the end of the month for another 12 months, subject to the Company’s rules for election of members. The Captain has suggested to Major Stapp to turn this corps into a “ country corps,” which he has agreed to do when the proper number of men are sworn in. It is found to be an utter impossibility to keep the strength of the company up to a “ garrison corps,” there being so many of our townsmen away. We might point out to those who desire to join that there will be only font Government inspection parades during the year, and a company parade say about once a month, as may be agreed on hereafter. It would be a pity to see the corps break up, as with their red coats and brass baud they often enliven the town.
