COUNTY COUNCIL RESIGNATIONS

Tho general “ strike ” among County councillors, foretold by Cr Morgan, is certainly in a fair way of realisation. At the general meeting yesterday, Or Foreman’s resignation was read, and the clerk had received the following letter from Cr Sullivan:—“ There is no need of my sending in my resignation. I have seen by the Fatea Mail everything is arranged. Mr Bridge need not think that I will foci a bit sorry.” This was evidently referring to what occurred at the last meeting of the Council, when Cr Bridge stated that he had heard that Cr Sullivan had become surety for a contractor under the Counand bad thereby forfeited his seat. In the course of a discussion, Cr Morgan thought that the clerk should intimate Mr Sullivan that he had forfeited bis seat. Cr Bridge said he would not like to take that responsibility, nor would be advise the clerk to do so, but he thought that if Mr Sullivan liked to take tho responsibility himself and sit in the Council, well and good. Anyone could then lest the case in Court. After some further discussion, in the course of which Cr Morgan said that he had met Mr Sullivan that morning on his way to Kawbia, Cr Bridge said that he thought it would be a pity to have an election for a councillor in Mr Foreman’s place, and one immediatlcly after for Mr Sullivan. He thought tho clerk should write acknowledging the receipt of the note, and saying that he could not accept it as a formal resignation, and asking Mr Sullivan to write a proper notice of resignation. Cr Morgan agreed to ascertain Mr Sullivan’s address, with a view to getting a formal resignation or otherwise.
