AUCKLAND, This day
The schooner Three Cheers, which has arrived from the South Sea Islands, reports the murder of a Chinaman at
Birtaritarl'lsland, where Captain Moller was shot. A white trader is accused of the crime. The murdered man, who was known by the name of Sam, Chinese name Ekum, vrns partner in a large China firm trading from Sydney He was found dead in a house with a long knife through his body. The schooner Pirate was insured for £IOOO in the Union, £7OO rc-insured with New Zealand. Her cargo was insured in the Union for £700; New Zealand, £l5O ; Universal, £525. Freight insured at £IOO in the Universal.
The gum diggers at Now Caledonia write that the'affair is an awful sell; there is no payable gum on the island.
