OAMARU HARBOUR WORKS.

Regarding the progress of the harbour works at Oamaru the N. 0. Times of a recent date says “ The . breakwater contractors were favoured with a fine day yesterday for making one of the monolith blocks for the end of the wall. Work was commenced at 7 in the morning, in order to be able to take advantage of the low tide, and from that hour till 11 last night all hands were kept busy. The block, which weighs between 200 and 300 tons forms the outer part of the wall, and it is expected that another block, of about the same weight, will be placed in position in a few days. These two blocks when finished, will complete the breakwater wall, and their weight is calculated to defy the force of the heaviest seas to affect their stability,”
