PRINCE BISMARCK'S PAPER MILL.
Few perhaps are aware that Prince Bismarck is an extensive paper manufacturer. He possesses a large paper mill, which be founded in the forest of Varzin, and the business seems to have been so successful that he intends to erect another in Lauenberg. The Prince’s paper is manufactured from wood, an idea which he probably derived from the Austrians, where the production of paper from wood has been carried j on for a considerable time, with succcssjfl and profit. The use of wood as iHH material in the manufacture of paper ia not a novel conception, as many patents / have been taken out even in for the conversion of the bark or fibre of trees into paper. Many newspapers on the Continent ||are printed on the product, and out-turn of Prince Bismarck’s paper mill is largely used up in the newspaper offices of Germany. Patents have been taken out for manufacturing paper from almost every conceivable vegetable substance, but we believe the German Chancellor proceeds upon well-tried business lines.
