AGRARIAN MURDER NEAR CORK.
Nine arrests, including one woman, have been made in connection wit!) an agrarian murder which was committed at Dripsey, 10 miles west of Cork. It appears to have arisen ont of a family dispute over land. A man named Murphy died a month ago, leaving his daughter in possession of a farm of 35 acres. It was claimed by her brother, the eldest son, who was already in possession of another 35 acres, which were assigned to him on his marriage, by iiis father. The brother and sister quarrelled over the matter, bnt the Utter succeeded in asserting her rights. She let her portion to James Spence for grazing, and he had been in possession of it for nearly a month. On 14th October he left his horn*’, a mile distant, to look after bis enttle, which were grazing on this land. He was suddenly surrounded by a number of men, and was terribly beaten. Some people who saw the attack from a distance went to hfs assistance, and the assailants ran off. The man was found in an unconscious state, and died in half an hour. His skull was completely battered in. The police hare arrested John Murphy, and his wife, together with seven others, on suspicion. Evidence has heen offered by some of those in custody.
