James Young, watchmaker, committed Buitfiflc «t South Dunedin on Saturday, nifeased arrived in the colony four cPnths ago by the British King. On liis arrival, ho went with his uncle, Mr Cunningham, nt South Dunedin, and became attached to one .of Cunningharrt’s daughters, bn; bin suit was discouraged by his uncle. A short time since deceased went to Out ram and there opened a small simp as a watch maker and working jeweller. On Thursday he came to town and met Miss Cnnningham who declined to have anything to say to him. After this he knocked about town drinking and once or twice spoke of committing suicide. On Saturday about two hours before he shot himself he told a young woman at Kensington that he had been badly treated and that he would do something to Cunningham. At JO o’clock Cunningham was told what deceased had said and sent for the police, who were in the house and were making enquiries at the lime that Young fired the first shot. The first shot seemed to be fired into the street. He then ran from the building: and fired again, the second shot penetrating hid right breast. ■
