The force under Hicks Pusha, when the campaign against the Soudan rebels opened some time back, consisted of 8600 infantry, 400 cavalry, and four batteries artillery. It is not definitely known bow many men were directly operating against the enemy prior to the recent dbfeat, but it is supposed that fully five thousand were actually engaged in the battle, which resulted in the the total nnnibiliation of General Hick’s force
