THE JORDAN VALLEY CANAL.
They have gone so far with the Jordan Valley canal project as to estimate its cost £222,705,000 at the very least, and Great Britain has been asked for eight millions as a start. The Sultan of Turkey is said to favour the Jordan canal, under certain conditions ainf restrictions. He wishes to secure his hold on Palestine better than be did on Egypt by making concessions in the Suez canal business. But the cost of a Jordan canal is so stupendous that it is not likely Europe will face it, especially as the capital invested would be sunk out of sight for a century or more, and no one living could hope to realize anything from such on inyestment,
