' (From our Correspondent.) Thursday. At Mr F II Jackson’s sale thqrc. were 77 hoad of cattle yarded-an 1 28-t sheep. Bullocks brought' L t J7s 6d ; ■ steers, L2 ; fa* cows-, LI 5s ; owes and lambs of inferior quality, 11s. ' ‘ .
The variegate 1 thistle has been spreading so rapidly of late years over the vacant sections of oirr township as to become a positive nuisance. The farmers.around were asked to co-operate with the residents in giving money or habrur-to assist in having them cutdown, but declined. r Notwithstanding the refusal of the farmers and non-ap-pearance of several who promised to assist, ihe thistles have been cut' down with the exception of one very heavy/patch; but it is hoped that those who have interested themselves and worked so well will not give in. but fini-h a work so well begun. It is about time the Spprts Committee were doing something .if ■ it. is their intention lo have sports this year on Boxing Day, I believe a suitable paddock can be got close to the Railway Station, in which the sports could be hold, and if properly represented I have not the least doubt but that a special train would be laid on to take the visitors away in the evening. - After the success they were last year, it is to be hoped they, will not be allowed to fall through. lam sorry to" have to record the almost total failure of about Ihe only experiment in farming here this year. The Rye Seed that Mr D JVXfchie sovred ivith the iat ntion Of using the,straw for thatching his stacks has proved bad, very few seeds having germinated. Thus be not only loses :he price of the seed and thatching material, but the use of a certain quantity t f land for crop, and labour spent on it,
