WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Wniroa Highway Board was held on Saturday, November 3rd, 1883. Present, Wardens Aiken, Johnston, Symes and lon (chairman). Treasurer’s balance ; General account, £127 8s 2d ; Block VIII, £95 14s 7d ; Block IX, Dr, £l3 10s 6d ; Block 111, Dr, £2l 16s 4d ; Block IV, Omahini, Cr, £4 17s lOd.
The Foreman of Works reported that he had employed Seaton to remove slips off Nicholson’s road. J. Hughes had been working at lower Kohi bridge most of last month, and had not finished yet. The two Rosses had been repairing the Kohi and other roads during the month. Rolling had been a few days repairing Block IX road. The furze had been cut on McDonald’s road. Specifications had been prepared for Kohi and Karahaki roads ploughing and road formation. Correspondence was read from R. Garrett, Surveyor, re survey of line through section 2, Block 8, Momahaki; from Treasury re rates on Crown and Native Lands ; from Surveyor-General re reserving right of roads through section 2, Block 8, and section 9, Block 4, Wairoa Survey District ; from Property Tax Commissioner enclosing roll of Crown Lands on which rates are payable for years 1882-83 1883 84; from W. Palmer asking the Board to open the road through Messrs Howie’s property. Resolved —That the receipt of Mr Palmer’s letter be acknowledged. Resolved—That the Foreman of V\ orks order new piles for lower Kohi Bridge : That notice be sent to Messrs F. Symes, 0. Symes, Walkinton and Newland to remove furze on roads abutting on their property. Mr Lind waited on the Board re Richardson road. Resolved—That Mr Garrett be instructed to run a trial survey of the road to Richardson’s via Lyster’s, provided the settlers provide the labour requested : That tenders be called for ploughing and forming Kohi and Karihaka roads by next meeting. Mr Williamson waited on the Board re repairs to Block VIII, road deviation Resolved —That Mr Garrett bo instructed to run a trial line on Block VIII road near Nicholson’s, and that the Foreman of Works give an estimate of cost of whole amount of work required, by next meeting. Resolved—That tenders be called for ploughing and levelling- Hearn and Kennedy’s road by next meeting and that the Foreman of Works at once prepare specifications for same: That the Foreman of Works report on Nicholson’s road,
Whenuakura, by next meeting and the cause of the damage to same : That the Lower Kohi bridge be closed for traffic from date pending repairs, and that public notice bo given of same. Mr John Milne waited on the' Board r* repairs to road near his property : Resolved—That the Foreman of Works get repairs done on Okotuku road near Mr Milne’s property. Resolved —That the following accounts be passed for payment : E. J. Ross, £6 6s; G. C. Boss, £5 ss; W. Seaton, £5. The meeting then adjourned.
