WAIROA LIGHT HORSE.

The first competition of the season for the Challenge Belt of the above troop came, off on Saturday last, The present holder of the belt is Sergt George Howie. There were about 24 competitors. The weather was fine for firing, but if an}'thing rather too bright The ranges were 200, 300 and 500' yards, 6 shots at each range. Sergt Howie commenced well again as at the conclusion of the firing he had a lead of eight points. The principal scores were :—Sergt Howie, 54 ; SubLieut Thurston, 46; Scrgt-Major McLean, 45 ; Sergt Sim, 45 ; Lieut Johnston, 44; Trooper Matheson,43 ; Capt Walkinton, 42; Trooper Thurston, 42. After the firing the troop adjourned to the Town Hall for drill, it being decided to have drill in the Hall on each belt day which is fixed for the last Saturda3 r in the month.
