A FARMER’S ENEMY.

The sheep farmer has a new enemy lo contend against in addition to the rabbit, the kea, and the sc;ib. The Marlborough Express says: —We learn that Mr P. R. Mcßae’s Blarich flock has been greatly troubled this year, owing to the sen gnlls having taken to attacking the young lambs. Mr Mcßae hns lost over 170 stnd lambs this season through this cause alone. It appears that these gulls attack the lambs underneath

and pluck their intestines ont, and in a number of cases strip the flesh off about the backbone. Mr Hall, of Woodbank, has a'so known young lambs to be killed in this way, bnt though we are quite aware that lambs are frequently attacked by gulls, and their eyes plucked out, , excepting in the cases stated, we have heard of no other instances in which gnlls have been emulating the feats of that dread enemy of the flock—the Ken bird.
