THE MURIMOTU TROUBLE.
■ We ( Chronicle) understand that Mr Rochefort has,not yet , received positive and final instructions as to the course of action to be taken in regard to the central railway survey. It is pretty well known, however* that the Government have instructed him to again try pacific measures, and that he will leave for the interior in a few days. He will not, however, go tip toTanruala's coiintry, where the stoppage of ’the! survey look place, but to Tppia’s tenilory . beyond it, with the intention of working backwards. Mr Bryce does not deem it at present advisable to personally interview the obstructionists. Mr Rochefort will have the co-operation and company of Kemp, as far as may be thought derirable, but-it is obviously important that nothing should be done by the Government to extend or appear to extend Kemp’s mana into Topia’s country at.the Upper Wanganui. The situation is evidently one that. requires delicate handling. The Government will, however, ho doubt enlist' the in; fluenco of Topia on the side of the survey. At present Mr Bryce does not deem it necessary that he'himself should visit the scene of action, though he will held himself in readiness to go up there should any fresh complication arise.
