AMERICAN WHEAT IN NEW ZEALAND.

The following is a report'- by Messrs Berry, Barclay and Co., of Glasgow, on some American wheat grown by the N. Z. and A. Land Company, on Totara: “ We are in receipt of your favour of yesterday, with samples and interesting information regarding the out-lnrn of some of the trials made by you with the American wheat sent out for seed. The returns seem to have been very satisfactory as to quantity.’ As to the Red Winter wheat, the quality seems very satisfactory, although the wheat appears to have lost some of the bloom of the seed sample. We would value this wheat here to-day at 45s to 46s per 480lbs. The No. 1 Hard Spring appears to have lost something of its hardness as well as bloom, but is of excellent quality. It is not easy for us to judge of its glutenous quality without having it tried practically, but if it has not lost this quality, which is a feature of the wheat from which the seed lot was forwarded, it should be worth here to-day 47s to 48s per 480Ibs. Ordinary While New Zealand of good quality is worth here to-day 44s to 45s per 4801bs. The Red. wheats are more valuable than those usually grown in New Zealand, and are just what is wanted for the new style of roller mills lately erected in this country.” s “ Berry, Barclay & Co.” One hundred and twenty-three acres Red Winter averaged 45 bushels per acre, and 102 acres No 1 Hard averaged while 170 acres rough chaff yielded 48|, consequently the No 1 Hard shows an advantage of £2 10s 3d per acre over the common White wheats.
