[per press association.]
HAWERA, This day
At the inquest on a boy 3 years old, who died at Kelemarde, the juryj found that he died from erysipelas, but added the following rider ; “Wo consider Dr Alexander to blame in not attending the child when called upon while in the neighbourhood, especially as he himself says he diagnosed the case correctly from the father’s description and prescribed for it accordingly, and must therefore have known that the disease was a dangerous one. This is our unanimous decision.” The evidence of Dr Alexander was to the following effect; I reside .at Hawera. On Wednesday, deceased’s father came to me at' Normanby, after I had been about two hours and a half in the township, and was about to start for Hawera, representing that the child was pretty bad» with in its leg,but not seriously ill He saY Kt' be lived in the bush some way. I was in a great hurry to get back to Hawera, but said in spite of that if ho had a horse I would go with him. Ho said lie had not a horse, but was on foot, and I thought if I went up alone, I would hare considerably difficulty in finding the place, and 1 decided to prescribe for the child at once, telling him to report the following morning by telegram or otherwise, which he did not do. I saw him the following night (Thursday) about eight o’clock. He told me the child was dead.
