WAVERLEY NOTES.

[From our Correspondent.] Saturday. The newly-elected Town Board for Waverley held a meeting on Monday evening, for the purpose of electing a Chairman, when Mr H; F. Mason was elected to the position. This Board will have but a short term of office, as the new Act passed this session provides for a general election of Town Boards all over the colony, on the third Wednesday in September, 1884. They will therefore hold office for one year only. The Harmonic Society have decided to hold an entertainment in aid of the funds of the Society on Friday, 12th October. The entertainment will not be a regular Society’s concert, but will be chiefly in aid of the piano fund. It will be wound up by a dance. An attractive programme will no doubt be submitted. The new piano for the Society has arrived and is placed in the school-room, arrangements having been made with the school committee for the use of that building for practises. ' The Crown Lands Ranger paid a visit to the Momahaki Block last week, for the purpose of making arrangements re contracts on certain roads on that block, the Government having decided to at once spend another £2OO in improving the roads. This should lead to further settlement in that direction. Bush falling is still going on apace on the block, and in a year or two the country will present quite a different appearance. The majority of the purchasers at the last sale are men who will improve their properties, and the most of them have already made a good show in the shape of clearing, fencing, &c. : ■ '
