WAVERLEY TOWN BOARD.
The election of five members for the Wavetley Town Board took place yesterday, and resulted in the return of Messrs McParlane, Mason, Swann, Rasmussen, and Napier. More interest seemed to be taken in this election than in any previous one since the gazetting of the Waverley Town District, showing that the ratepayers are seeing the necessity of looking after their own interests. The old Board, however, deserve a vote 6f thanks for the progress they made while in office, as notwithstanding the scarcity of the “ almighty dollar,” (which is the general complaint of small local bodies) they managed to get the formation of the main street completed, the side walks formed and partly gravelled, and sundry improvements, making the township present quite a different appearance. Considerable improvements have also been effected on the Domain, the Town Board being also the Domain Board. Taking all things into consideration, therefore they no doubt effected wonders. The new Board will have a comparatively easy job, as the more important works are finished. There is plenty of room for improvements, however; both on the Domain and in the town, and it is to be hoped that a .judicious expenditure of the income derived from the different sources will be effected.
