The loss is estimated at £90,000* of which £25,000 is covered by insurances. The following are the policies held by the New Zealand offices :—Colonial Insurance Company of New Zealand. £2IOO, threefourths reinsured ; United Insurance Company and South British; each £2IOO, of which £865 is reinsured ; Union Insurance Company of New Zealand, £SOOO ; National Insurance Company of New Zealand, £IOOO. The remainder are held by English offices. _ J & This Day. The Meat Preserving Works, which were burnt down at Rockhampton, were ;situated at TaTa Creek. The entire works, several large buildings, were * (biitfy destroyed, only some machinery being saved. The cargo of frozen meat, which had been prepared for the steamer Fiado, was also consumed.
