SYDNEY, Sept 12,
Another severe shock, of earthquake was experienced last night in the smith'of this colony. The shock was felt most distinctly in the city of Goulbourn.
A crowded and enthusiastic meeting was held in the Town Hall this evening, for the purpose of considering the recent actions for libel and contempt of Court, in which the proprietors of the Sydney Morn _ ing Herald were condemned to pay MSt* * damages. Resolutions requesting Legislature to amend the existing law of libel and contempt of court, were carried. ■ , Sept' 13. News has been received here that the second mate and four of the crew of the schooner Lavinia, and the Government agent, have been murdered by the natives of Apia. MELBOURNE, Sept 12. It has been ascertained that four children, between the ages of 12 and 4.years, were burnt to-day in the fire in Walsh street, South Yarra. The corpses, which have been recovered, are terribly charred by the fire. The fifth child, who was severely injured, is now lying in a critical condition, and is hot expected to recover. The Tramway Bill was read a- third time in the Legislative Council last night.
