PARIS, Sept 11.
The directors of the Suez Canal Company decided to introduce from the Ist January 1884, some modification of the existing regulations, nnder which traffic through the Canal is conducted. Among other things, the Company decided' to reduce the dues payable by vessels in ballast, and to undertake charge of floating ships that may become stranded in passing through the Canal.
The Temps, in its issue to-day, announces that the British Government have agreed to mediate between France and China for a settlement of the difficulty in
Tonquin. Admiral Pierre, who recently arrived here after resigning command of the French forces at Madagascar on account of ill health, died to-day. LONDON, Sept 12.
The race for the St Leger Stakes was run to-daj', and resulted, as follows ,:, Ossian 1, Chislehurst 2, Highland Chiefs. The foot and mouth disease is spreading in an alarming manner amongst the cattle in all parts of England. NEW YORK, Sept. 12.
The American Bereau Monthly Report estimated the American wheat crop this year at twelve per cent, below last year’s yield.
