As the 10 o’clock goods train from Clinton for Invercargill was nearing Waitma last night, John Henderson, the fireman, was shot dead by a man unknown from a bank alongsidethe line. The train put back to Clinton. The brakesman and driver were on the engine at the time. Henderson’s wife and family reside at InyercargUl. There is no clue. This Afternoon. There is no fresh information re the m urder’to hand. Guard Duncan 'says he saw two flashes, and immediately after the second- deceased threw up his anns j exclaiming“ Oh Peter ” to Peter Dunn, the driver of the engine, and expired. Those on the train became frightened and extinguished all the lights. Inspector Weldon and two detectives proceeded to Clinton this,morning.
