BALLOTING FOR BANKER.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,- —Can yon inform me on what principle of fair-play it was considered necessary at Saturday’s meeting of the “ West Coast Meat and Produce Export Co., Limited,” to ballot tor the banking account of that Company ? Mr Christie was the first to move.in this most important matter of starling Freezing Works here. He only handed over the information he had obtained at the request of several members of the Agricultural Association. He acted as one of the Committee appointed by the Association, attended all their meetings, and contributed liberally towards the preliminary expenses in floating the Company. In return for his trouble ho was allowed to c< stand in ’ with the other bankers when the question of which bank was to get the account cropped up. Up to the time of the meeting, when the banking account was to be considered, the managers of the Banks of 'New South Wales Jand Australasia had never evinced much interest in the movement so far as practical, useful work was concerned, and I fail to see, sir, in common justice and good taste, why Mr Christie was not at once offered the account, when he had taken so much trouble and used his influence to so great an extent towards this industry (the pioneer of a successful future in the district.) It seems to me, sir, that this course would only have been a slight acknowledgment of what Mr Christie has done, as I fully believe had he not taken the initiative as he did the matter would even now have been dragging its weary and uncertain length along, perhaps never to eventuate till some other district had overridden us. In conclusion I would say that if it is the wish of the Paten people to strangle the little public spirit that remains amongst us, by all means follow up the tactics of Saturday’s meeting.—Yours, &c., Courtesy. Pntea, Aug. 13.
