A GOOD SERVANT.

Compliments were freely passed at the last meeting of the Harbour Board upon the Wharfinger for the faithful manner in which he had carried out his duties. These pleasant remarks were made in view of the fact that Mr Imrie’s connection with the Board was probably about to cense, as the wharf work will be done by the Railway Department when the line opens. The Chairman mentioned that ho had seen Mr Rotherham and that gentleman had told him the Department would provide a man to attend to the wharf, but if ho could possibly do anything for Mr Imrie he would. Mr Adams considered it very hard that the Wharfinger should lose his position, an opinion that was warmly endorsed by Mr Richards, but apparently there was no help for it. Eventually upon Mr Adams’ motion, seconded by Mr Richards and carried unanimously, it was resolved, “That the Wharfinger receive a month’s salary in lien of notice if his services arc dispensed with at the end of the present month.” , The public who are brought into contact with the Wharfinger will join with us in wishing that he will be successful in obtaining employment in the railway department, where no doubt his services would be as well appreciated as they have been by the Harbour Board.
