THE EARTHQUAKE.

Five Thousand Lives Lost. [REUTER —COPYRIGHT.] (Received August 2, 1.10 a.m.) NAPLES, July 31. Latest accounts from Ischia report that fully 5000 persona lost their lives atCassamiciola and in the neighbourhood. Efforts are being made to extricate the bodies of those who perished from the ruins and inter them, but the air is now poisoned with pestilental effluvia, and all that can now be done is to cover the corpses with quick lime and allow them to remain. Vesuvius, which has shown signs of activity since the late earthquake at Ischia, is now in eruption.
