INSURANCE PREMIUMS.
Several citizens of this town have received circulars, stating that an alliance has been formed by all the insurance companies between Wellington and New Plymouth, for the purpose of charging a certain fixed rate of premium for the district between those two places; the said rate of premium being exorbitant, and further stating that a meeting to consider the matter will be held at the Eutland Hotel, Wanganui, on Tuesday, the 26th inst. The questions to bo submitted to the meeting, in order to endeavour to break the monopoly, are whether it will be better to form a Local Insurance Company or to form an Association, all members of which will agree to give all their insurance business to an outside Company for a certain term at an arranged premium. As the question of insurance is one of the utmost importance to a great many on this Coast, a large meeting may be anticipated.
