NEW HIGHWAY DISTRICTS.

TO THE EDITOR; Sie, —The following extract from the report of the Taranaki County Council proceedings .published in the Taranaki Herald, of Juno 6th, shows that although I failed to find a seconder at our last Council meeting to an amendment to the resolution passing a special order creating a new highway district south of main road, Waverley, an authority like Mr Govett holds the same opinionjas I do “ Subdivision of Road Districts.—A legal opinion was received from Mr Govett, the County solicitor, re the necessity of two-thirds of the inhabitants of a district being required to sign a petition in favour of a subdivision of a district. He was of opinion that it was necessary for twothirds of the inhabitants of the whole district to sign the petition, and not only two-third of the inhabitants of the portion proposed to be cut off " You see, Sir, that Mr Govett’s opinion exactly fits the case discussed at the last meeting of the Patea County Council.— Yours, &c., . Geo. S. Bridge. Waverley, June 9.;
