THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY.

TO. THE EDITOR. Sir,—'Through not gelling your paper I did not see a rather good story on the 23rd. I think, with your permission, it will be better when you bear the other side of it, Mr John Scott came to where I was at work, book in hand and without anj r prelude, demanded 11s sd. When I told him I paid his father and had his receipt, he called me a liar, and said that I was like a good many more, I would not pay my children’s account. I called him an ill-bred pup, and ordered him off the

place. When ho got a safe-distance, he commenced such-, foul mouth language as few have heard. It was (o put him out of hearing of a child who was with .me that I went after him. As for gesticulating when he came hack, 1 had a good laugh at a would-be swell galloping'a mile for fear of his own shadow, ns I knew he would have to turn back. But quick as ho left my place, he left some of my neighbours’ quicker when the little contra account was handed to pay. But wo all meet these peculiar men that will collect but do not pay. 1 would ddvise Mr J. Scott to learn a little mannprs. He .must beware a foul tongue which has put men out of good situations, before now. He thought I was a good mark ; well, Mr Editor, I have a great dislike to pay a bill the second time when I have got the receipt. When so* many parents will'not pay Mr J. Scott, why not take tho proper steps? I believe the law makes the debtor pay costs, but ho is too mean to chance paying the piper. Well, Mr Editor, I will not trespass on your valuable space any more.—Yours &c., James McMeckin. Mount View Farm, Waverley, Maj' 29.
