THE GOVERNMENT POLICY.
Some important indications of Government policy during the ensuing session are contained in a letter dateddOth May, sent by the Premier to the Christchurch Chamber of Commerce, in reply to representations made by that body. Mr Whitaker states that the non-political management of railways is still under consideration of the Cabinet, and a decision will be come to before the session, arid either a Sill will be introduced or the r eason given early in the session why the Government cannot propose such a measure. He (the Premier) further, states that the Government will propose to the Assembly that provision be made for a Minister of Agriculture, Mr Bowron has been appointed to impart instruction in reference to the manufacture of cheese, butter, and bacon, and is now ; ;at work. •The appointment of an in- • spector to “ grade” wheat exported appears at preseiih-prematufe. Q? Bill ’dealing with the. Bankruptcy l question has been prepared, and will be introduced early in the session.
