THE AUCKLAND RAILWAY ROUTE.
————♦—• : -- - ‘ ‘ TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— ln addressing the ■ Pnblic |lee'ting on Tuesday eveningj ...Mr7.R .A Adams mentioned that there was a better route, to Auckland, than by either Taranaki or Mokan,'and -which would come out somewhere between here and Hrtwera, It occurred to me bn hearing this that, very few'of tlio audience and of the public generally knew anything. . direction ;in which either oorf r the ’routes-;. Tuh.i ,. -The -general opinion down. South, seenis to be that the Mokau- is a ' coastal lino, and will noLopen up any country at allj while the JRangitikei route will open a vast territory. My own opinion was in favour bfi the 5 latter route till I received some information on the matter from one who knew something of the direction which the former would take. From him, and also from Mr Williams last night I learnt that the line was to go to; the head of the Mokau, a very different thing from running near the coast. I think yon would be doing sc service to the district by placing before it any reliable, information, which can be got on : the iftatter.- —Y etc., May 23. Radical.
