STRANDING OF THE OMAPERE.
' ' . A.telegram was received from AYestport yesterday as follows:’—Tlie Oinapere was proceeding to.sea in tow of the Mahinapua. at ten . o’clock last night, when the former took the ground on the bar. The latter also bumped, and the, tow rope had to be cut.' The Omapere stuck,.hard and fgst, and was gradually driven into the surf to (lie north Of the channel. The coal has been jettisoned, and an attempt will be made to get her off at flood tide to-day. The Mahinapua re-crosod the bar, returned to port, and will assist the Omapere. The Grafton went out safely immediately after the accident, WESTPORT, This day. The Mahinapua got a hawser to the' Omapere last night, and would most likely have got her off but the warp parted at a critical moment.; The Omapere is now in a slightly better position, and no damage has been done to her excepting some strain to the machinery in the engine room.
