An-eclipse of the sun took place on Monday. Our astronomer has not communicated the result of his observations to ; us, but as he was seen about the time of the eclipse intently contemplating something through the' medium of a long glass at the ; Albion Hotel, no doubt science is about to rJ d)e by a discovery. Telegrams are to baud as follow : . > NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. ; The'sky was quite clear’ during the eclipse of the sun this "morning. . - .WANGANUI, Monday. ;
The weather was beautiful for observing the eclipse .this morning. The sky being very clear, it was plainly observed through a piece of smoked glass. WELLINGTON, Monday. .
The sky was too cloudy to observe the eclipse of the sun. It was clearly ,visible at Gastlepoint and Whangaifei. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday..
The weather this morning was very cloudy, but the eclipse was visible for five minutes at 8.30, when half the disc appeared to be covered. The effect, as seen between a break in thefClbuds, vvas very fine'.’ No sun spots were noticeable., . _ DUNEDIN, Monday! ; Tha solar eclipse was totally invisible here, owing to cloudy weather.
