WAVERLEY.
Oil ’ouiT'goliitJSSJL’ONDEilT.) Thursday. The conversazione held in the .Town Eall on Tuesday last under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church proved a great success," the , hall being crammed and sitting room being exceedingly scarce. The entertainment consisted of / addresses, readings, and musical selections. During the interval refreshments were handed round. The addresses by the Revs. Allsworth, ’Terry, Thomson, and Duncan, were well received, while Mr J. S. Thomson afforded considerable amusement by his readings, selecting from Artemiis, Ward’s Shaker and Courtship experiences.; The songs and musical selections were well rendered, and altogether a most enjoyable evening was spent. ! i Now the winter is approaching, it is time some’ steps were taken towards getting up some sort of amusement for (he long evenings. “ All work and*no play makes Jack a dull boy,” and a little harmless amusement does one a great amount of good. The quadrille assemblies, at one time so popular here, should be at once started, and_ with very little difficulty a musical society could be got up. A minstrel troupe is already under weigh, and I suppose we shall shortly see some “inimitable darkies” figuring on the stage. '
