COUNTY COUNCIL.
After the adjournment the Chairman reported that he had seen the District Engineer, who suggested that £450 should be spent in metal, leaving £SO to spread it. It was resolved to telegraph to Mr Stewart, who had gone to Wanganui, that the Council recommended the acceptance of Mr J. Paterson’s tender. A letter was read from Hawera County Council, urging the gravelling of the approaches to Manawapou bridge. It was resolved to reply that a contract was about to bo entered into. THE HOSPITAL. A letter was read from Mr J. Lett, declining to continue supplies to the Hospital unless the payments were made monthly. Correspondence was read by the Clerk, showing that application had been made to the Government a few days ago, but a reply had not yet been received. THE council’s BOOKS, The Clerk mentioned that the annual balance-sheet should be prepared and sent to the Government auditor 'by April 15. Unless the books were balanced for the two previous years it was impossible to comply with the Act. Cr Wilson moved “ That in order to get .the accounts of this Council in a thoroughly efficient form a sum of £2O be voted to the Secretary for the above purpose, and that out of the sum he can employ such assistance as he may require.” Cr Foreman seconded the motion, which was carried. HOSPITAL surgeon’s REPORT. The House Surgeon reported :—Admitted during March, 3 ; discharged, 3; remaining in hospital, 7 Joseph Boberio, paralysis ; John Sullivan, heart disease ; John Dougherty, ulcerations ; W. Brown; ulcers; Hugh M. 4 Donagli, concussion of spine ; James Tollen, ulcer ; G. Hoolihin, contusions and fractured rib. The report was received. engineer’s report. The Engineer reported that one half of contract 77 had been completed, viz.,.75 yards'of gravel on Burke’s bill. I have also to state that the contractor informs me that he received verbal instructions from Cr O’Sullivan not to proceed with the other portion of the contract. I would, therefore, ask for instruction whether I shall give a certificate for the portion completed. The report was adopted, the government and the hospital. The Committee appointed to examine into the accounts of the Government, so far as the Hospital is concerned, reported that a balance was owing by Government to the Council on this account amounting to £517 10s 10. It was resolved to forward a statement to the Government.
