KUMARA BURNT DOWN .
[per press association.] KUMARA, April 4. There was a great fire here last night. It broke out at 10.30 o’clock in Mrs Cooper’s fruit shop, occupied by Mrs Robert Brown, and spread from Adam - son’s baker’s shop to Wood’s bakery. All were completely destroyed/ Adamson’s bakery, Mrs Brown’s fruit shop, Harrison’s Hibernian' Hotel, Nicholson’s (commission agent), Spiers’ bookseller’s shop, Masonic Hotel, and Wood’s baker’s shop were all gutted. Wood’s bakery at the back is standing, but the shop was pulled down to prevent the fire extending to the Shamrock Hotel. Excepting Mrs Brown’s,, most of the goods wore removed, but were much damaged.
