THE SELWTN COUTEST.- ■ (per press association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 81. Nom 5 nations for 1 the* S elwy n dist Het took place to-day. Mr E J Lee, the Hon Mr E Richardson, and John McLachlan, were nominated. The show of hands'resulted as follows :—Lee, 23; Richardson, 15; McLachlan, 14. A poll was demanded. MR WAKEFIELD AT BRUNNER, [per press association.] GREYMOUTH, March 31. Mr Wakefield addressed the ; Brunner •electors last night. The hall was crowded, though a great many at work in the mines could not attend. He received a very attentive hearing. A most unusual number of questions were put at the close, and answered apparently satisfactorily. A motion was carried almost unanimously that he is a fit and proper person to represent the district in Parliament, and an amendment that only a vole of thanks be accorded, had only two or three hands held up. A number of Greymouth people attended the meeting, and there was hearty applause at the conclusion.
