I haye heard a few remarks dropped by some of the settlers respecting the starting ;of some: = local industry; // Opinion seems, .somewhat divided between a woollen manufactory 'and' one for the making of cheese. The latter i certainly does not require, a large capital for the start, and, I believe, may also be worked far less expensively than the- former. Having a grand pastoral district around us nothing could be easier if sufficient energy is forthcoming, than to make either, or ‘perhaps* both, Of these industries successful. .

The School Committe met on Monday last. .Present.: Messrs Clover (chairman) Payue| Stanford, and’ Drury. The principal business was | the, voting for new; members for the Wanganui Board.' Tt was resolved that Miss Stanford’s appointment be sanctioned.' : Resolved also that application be made to the Board for a tank to supply both bojs and girls with water. Meeting At a meeting of tho Institute Committee it was decided to give an entertainment in aid of; the funds, towards the end of April. • 1 About that time the farmers will have got through their threshing ; so that if is to be hoped that there will be a “ bumper house.”
