WA VERLEJ-WAI TOTAR A RACING CLUB'S AUTUMN. MEETING.
This meeting was held on Saturday, but the attendance was, not nearly ;so good as on previous occasions, owing no doubt to the day .being Saturday. The manage--ment too,—sliowk„a' falling off, and the stewards deserve censure for disappointing the public ; with regard to the “cards,” which for some unaccountable reason were not to be had for: love or money. Few, but those who are directly interested in the races, know the entries or receipts for the different events, and when no cards are procurable, are completely lost. A good number of visitors from Wanganui and along-the line were on the course, the proximity of the rails to the ground proving a great convenience to the sport-loving public. ■ There was ah' absence of the usual pugilistic encounters, and not an accident occurred during the day. The Garrison Band froir^W anganui were in attendance, and played some lively music between the events, and they deserve praise for the manner in which the various pieces were rendered, the time and harmony being really grand. The racing was fair, but the fields not large. We notice that ‘Spectator,’ in his notes of the sth of March, spoke well of Norraanby so successfully.
