BOROUGH RETRENCHMENT.
- ■ TO THE EDITOR. SIR,—A' gentleman signing himself “ Factotum ” writes to your paper advocating that some of the salaries, especially the towm clerk’s ought to be reduced. Had he left the, reference to the town clerk out, many others besides myself would have agreed with him." I consider that we have too much engineering to pay for, and am beginning to think that it ought to be cut down, or dispensed-with altogether. In the shrunken state of our finances, it is liigii time tliat/ Councillors looked their expenses squarely in the face. At present it. about half, our income to pay instead of spending the money on thWipads. Why does not the Mayor come out of his shell, jmd . look into it.—Yours &c. • ■■■■■' . ' ■ Watchdog.
