News from Taupo slates that during last week several shocks of earthquake have been felt there. One of unusual severity occurred about 12 o’clock on Tuesday. The tremor of ground was felt for about six seconds, and the shock was so violent that it half emptied a glass of water. The oscillation of the earthquake waves were from north-west to south-east. It js not known if Tongariro is any way active as the volcano has been closely capped for the last week.
