(per press association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This day. Nine deserters are reported from H.M.S. Diamond./ A meeting of Mr J. Oram Sheppard’s creditors was held yesterday, at which the stated liabilities were £40,000 and assets £5500. Of the liabilities £4OO are secured by £SOOO the estimated value of the assets. Messrs Stead, Roper, and A. C. Wilson, were appointed a commitee to investigate the position of the estate on behalf of the creditors. TAURANGA, This day. News from Taupo slates that during last week several shocks of earthquake have been felt there. One of unusual severity occurred about 12 o’clock on Tuesday. The tremor of ground was felt for about six seconds, and the shock was so violent that it half emptied a glass of water. The oscillation of the earthquake waves were from north-west to south-east. It js not known if Tongariro is any way active as the volcano has been closely capped for the last week.
