About half a dozen Maoris belonging to Nelson were on the wharf, but with the exception of rubbings noses there was no demonstration or excitement. ARRIVAL OF THE CHIEFS ' OPUN AKE, this day. The steamer Stella,' with Te Whiti and Tohn, arrived at 8 o’clock this morning. There was a large crowd of Europeans on the bench, but few. Maoris - wore present, it ’uolr being generally known where, the chiefs would land. They received a most demonstrative welcome from the natives. Te Whiti addressed a few words to them, and the party drove in a Government trap to Paribaka, accompanied by Col. Roberts, Cnpt, M.essenger and a native interpreter. Te Whiti and Tolm look remarkably ’well.
