KAKARAMEA.
[From our Correspondent.] Friday. The annual meeting of the Licensing Committee was held in the Town Hall bn Tuesday, for the purpose of electing five new members. Messrs M’Rae, Delamqre, and Slater, were jehosen in place of the retiring members. Not'much interest was shewn in the proceedings. It is satlsfactor}' to find that our Library has received its share of the £6OOO grant to public libraries, namely £l4 13s, which, although not a very large sum, is in proportion to the annual income of the Institute. It will, at any fate, enable the Committee to add still further to the co| : lection already on the shelves. This should induce many, who have hitherto held aloof, to become subscribers. Ah increase of subscriptions, and a few successful entertainments during the year, would perhaps at the annual audit, show a balance which might be devoted to the erection of a new building, which is much needed. The Boiling Down Works are rapidly approaching completion, Mr Robb baa spared no pains to procure the latest improvements, and it is to be hoped that he will have no reason to regret the large outlay which such a work necessarily entails*
