Thirty appointments in the Telegraph Department, salary commencing at ten shillings per week, wore lately thrown open to public competition amongst the women of Victoria. I’here were no fewer than eight hundred entries for this extraordinarily rich stake. - The Argus containing the announcement had also a closely printed column and a half of advertisements—“ Domestic servants wanted.” So that want of an opening for female employment cannot be the cause of ‘this charge of the eight hundred. Female'vanity is tbe motive power.
