COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Patea County Council was held this afternoon. Present: The Chairman and Crs Bridge, Dnrie, Wilson, A. Howie, Morgan, Foreman, and O’Sullivan. After the confirmation of minutes, the outward and inward correspondence was read. CONDITIONAL LICENSES. A letter was icad from the Patea Borough Council applying for a refund of the licensing foe for the publican’s booth at the cricket match Auckland v. Patea. Cr Wilson moved that the letter be refered to their solicitor for his opinion. There did not appear to be any limit to the jurisdiction of a licensing Bench. In his opinion the Bench that granted the license was entitled to the fee.” Cr Bridge seconded. He thought that it would bo well to have the matter settled at once. The question should be put before (lie lawyer whether it was the public body in the district where the premises were situated or the body in the place where the conditional license was exorcised that, should receive the fee. The motion was carried. RETURNING OFFICER. The Clerk of the Licensing Court wrote asking the Council to appoint a returning officer for the Waverley Licensing district. On the motion of Cr Bridge, Mr E. C. Horner was appointed. REPORTS. The report of the Hospital Surgeon and that of the Engineer were read. Some discussion took place with regard to the danse of the latter, and it was resolved on the motion of Cr Bridge “ That the Engineer bo authorised to deal with contract No. 73.” (Left sitting.)
